Alternative & Complementary Therapy

Alternative & Complementary Therapy in Douglassville, Audubon, and Lancaster, PA

Explore our integrative, complementary, and alternative therapies

At Sanctuary Counseling, we believe that healing is deeply personal and not one-size-fits-all. In addition to traditional talk therapy and counseling, we offer complementing therapies that help with trauma recovery, anxiety, emotional regulation, and embodied self-expression. Whether you’re drawn to Reiki for calm, music therapy for emotional exploration, or creative arts to voice what words cannot, our integrative approach meets you where you are using therapies that feel right to you.

Our offerings are available across three convenient Pennsylvania locations: Douglassville, Audubon, and Lancaster. Many sessions are also accessible via telehealth, allowing you to explore alternative paths to healing from wherever you are.

Therapeutic Gaming

Therapeutic gaming brings emotionally guided gameplay into the counseling space, making it especially for teens and adults navigating anxiety, social connection, or identity development. Through structured and cooperative role-playing adventures, clients build resilience, communication, and problem-solving skills in a sage and imaginative environment.

This modality is offered by trained clinicians in person at our Douglassville offices, and is adaptable for virtual group experiences for the convenience of our clients who are farther away. It’s ideal for clients who thrive on creativity, storytelling, or nontraditional therapeutic approaches. No experience is required.

Music Therapy

Music therapy supports emotional expression through rhythm, sound, and lyrical exploration. Whether you’re listening, moving, singing, or composing, this approach taps into the body’s natural regulation systems and helps access emotions that may be hard to articulate.

Clients in our Lancaster and Douglassville locations often use music therapy to process grief, trauma, or to explore identity in a safe, nonjudgmental space. No prior musical experience is needed, just a willingness to connect.

Reiki Therapy

Reiki at Sanctuary Counseling is a collaborative, somatic therapy that blends energy healing techniques with therapeutic conversation and emotional attunement. Unlike traditional or spa-based Reiki, this modality is guided by a licensed clinician who integrates trauma-informed dialogue with Reiki practice in real time. This helps to support clients as they process, reflect, and regulate throughout the session.

This approach can be especially helpful for clients navigating anxiety, grief, burnout, depression, emotional dysregulation, or a sense of disconnection from the body. Reiki therapy offers a pathway to clarity and calm by working directly with the nervous system and subtle energy patterns, helping clients shift out of emotional overwhelm and into a grounded, supported state.

Reiki therapy is currently offered at our Douglassville offices by clinicians with specialized training in both psychotherapy and energetic healing modalities.

Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy blends breath, movement, and mindfulness in a clinically informed process designed to address trauma, anxiety, and disconnection from the body. Each session is adapted to your ability and comfort level, with a focus on safety, nervous system support, and compassionate embodiment.

We offer yoga therapy at our Douglassville and Audubon offices, with both individual and small-group options available. It’s especially helpful for clients seeking somatic tools for grounding and emotional regulation.

Expressive Arts

Expressive arts therapy uses visual art, journaling, collage, sculpture, mixed media and a host of other studio arts to help clients externalize their internal world. This process-oriented approach values creativity over “talent,” and supports healing through metaphor, image, and intuitive exploration.

Available at all Sanctuary locations, expressive arts therapy is particularly empowering for clients working through trauma, identity development, or life transitions. Especially when words feel limited or unsafe.

Nature-Based & Ecopsychology Practices

Nature-based therapy invites clients to reconnect with the earth, seasonal rhythms, and their own innate sense of belonging. Our offerings may include guided outdoor sessions, animal assisted therapy, ritual work, or nature journaling. All are informed by ecopsychology and trauma-sensitive practice.

These experiences are currently available at Lancaster, Douglassville, and Audubon locations and select surrounding outdoor spaces. Clients report feeling more grounded, less anxious, and more attuned to both self and surroundings.
