Reiki Therapy

Reiki Therapy at Sanctuary Counseling

What is Reiki Therapy in a Psychotherapy Setting?

Reiki Therapy at Sanctuary Counseling offers a unique blend of somatic awareness, energy-based techniques, and therapeutic conversation. Unlike traditional Reiki experiences that are passive or offered in spa environments, our approach is rooted in clinical training and guided by licensed therapists.

Reiki is integrated into talk therapy sessions to support emotional insight, nervous system balance, and a deeper connection to the body. This work can be especially helpful for clients who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, or emotionally stuck. Reiki Therapy offers a meaningful complement to traditional psychotherapy by helping clients process feelings, regulate their nervous system, and explore healing in a more embodied way.

Whether you’re feeling emotionally stuck, “too much in your head,” anxious, or simply curious about new ways to feel grounded and supported, Reiki Therapy can be a meaningful complement to your healing work.

What to Expect During a Reiki Therapy Session

You will be welcomed into a calm, naturally lit therapy space that may include gentle music or subtle sensory elements like plants or essential oils, depending on your preferences. After a brief check-in, your therapist will invite you to lie fully clothed on a comfortable massage table or rest in a supported seated position, based on what feels best for you.

The session may begin with grounding exercises, breathwork, or mindfulness techniques to help you settle. Your therapist will then offer Reiki through gentle touch or by placing their hands just above your body. Throughout the experience, you and your therapist may pause to reflect, speak, or remain in quiet presence. The process is tailored to your needs and can support emotional clarity, physical calm, and a sense of inner balance.

FAQs About Reiki Therapy

Q: Do I have to believe in energy work for Reiki Therapy to help?

A: No belief is required. Reiki supports emotional and nervous system regulation through calming, non-invasive techniques. Many clients benefit simply by being open to the experience.

Q: Is Reiki used on its own or alongside talk therapy?

A: At Sanctuary, Reiki is always used in tandem with psychotherapy. It is part of your overall therapy process and can be integrated occasionally or more consistently depending on your needs and goals.

Q: What does it feel like during a session?

A: Clients often describe a sense of calm, release, or emotional clarity. Some notice warmth, tingling, or shifts in breath or body awareness. Your therapist will guide you through the experience and check in with you along the way.
